Datum: 23-12-2011

Alblasserdam will be the first municipality in the Netherlands with a swimming pool according to the 2521 concept. Erik van Heijningen, chairman of the Royal Dutch Swimming Federation (KNZB), presented on Thursday December 22th in Sports Centre Blokweer the license of this concept to alderman Sjoerd Veerman.

"I am pleased Alblasserdam is the first municipality where the 2521 Simply Swimming will be build. I am convinced many more pools will come in the Netherlands and Europe. We want swimming to become social responsible again. If the government can play a role by moving people, they can save a lot on healthcare costs. With this concept, we anticipate in a need: a modern, functional and energy efficient pool, low investment and minimal energy costs”, said the chairman.

Alderman Veerman is proud they cooperate with the local swimming club ZPC Wiekslag and the Royal Dutch Swimming Federation. They will offer the license to town council for decision in February 2012. The building of the 2521 pool will start end of 2012.

2521 is the size of the pool, 25 meters long and 21 meters wide (8 lanes). Health, sport and learn to swim are the main principles of the concept, Simply Swimming.
